Welcome

12th Spring School on Transition and Turbulence – EPTT 2020

The Spring School on Transition and Turbulence (EPTT, acronym in Portuguese) gathers students and researchers every two years in order to present, discuss and debate relevant topics on Transition and Turbulence in Fluid Mechanics. These topics are extensively investigated by an increasing number of researchers around the world and in the last years have attracted even more interest with the addition of turbulent multiphase, non-isothermal and reactive flow.

In 1998, the first EPTT was organized in order to encourage discussion and development of new studies on stability, transition and turbulence. The first EPTT was offered by the Military Engineering Institute (IME) and the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). Since then, it has been an event periodically organized by the Brazilian Association of Engineering and Mechanical Sciences (ABCM) with great success.

The specific objectives of the EPTT were kept the same over the last 20 years. It aims to bring together professionals and students in the area to present lectures from national and international experts on fundamental concerns in transition and turbulence free of cost. It also has the intention of providing opportunity for students, researchers and professors to expose their recent work to the community of transition and turbulence. Furthermore, this meeting encourages the discussion and exchange of experiences, promotes the interaction between the academic community and the industrial sector, proposes research and development projects and contributes to the training of high-level human resources, preparing them for the development of fundamental and applied research.

Some of the worldwide recognized researchers that already have attended the EPPT as keynote lecturers are Prof. Marcel Lesieur, Prof. Michel Stanislas, Prof. Olivier Simonin, Prof. Berend van Wachem, Prof. John Christos Vassilicos, Prof. William K. George, Prof. Tim Colonius, Prof. Stephane Popinet and others.

The EPTT 2020 will take place in the city of Blumenau-SC and it is organized by the Computational Fluid Dynamics Lab and the Verification and Validation Lab (www.lfclvv-furb.br), University of Blumenau (FURB). The 12th EPTT will follow the same format from previous editions, with invited lectures provided by international and national researchers and technical sections with the presentation of Brazilian and international works.
