The Brazilian Society of Mechanical Sciences and Engineering (ABCM) is a non-profit civil society or association for cultural and scientific purposes. It was founded on April 19, 1975. Since its inception, the ABCM has promoted the development of mechanical sciences and engineering by supporting the production, dissemination and application of knowledge through the publication, distribution and archiving of books, monographs and research papers, the promotion and support of technical and scientific events, and the promotion of cooperation between universities, research centers, companies and other associations in Brazil and abroad.
The ABCM regularly organizes 13 different conferences every 2 years, covering all areas of mechanical sciences and engineering. These regular events are complemented by a number of other non-regular events that focus on specific topics and public.
Among the 13 regular conferences, COBEM, the International Congress of Mechanical Engineering, and CONEN, the National Congress of Mechanical Engineering, cover all areas of mechanical sciences and engineering.
ENCIT – Brazilian Congress of Thermal Sciences and Engineering, COBEF – Brazilian Congress of Manufacturing Engineering, DINAME – International Symposium on Dynamic Problems of Mechanics, MECSOL – International Symposium on Solid Mechanics and ENEBI – National Meeting of Biomechanics Engineering focus on specific areas of knowledge.
EPTT – Spring School of Transition and Turbulence, EdC – School of Combustion, JEM – Multiphase Flows Journey, EVR – Summer Refrigeration School, EEP – School of Design Engineering are student-focused events that combine plenary lectures and workshops led by national and international experts, provide teaching and learning opportunities in fundamentals, offer basic training in tools, and promote networking among peers and with faculty and specialists.
The student chapter annually organizes CREEM, the National Congress of Mechanical Engineering Students, an opportunity to hear presentations on engineering topics, competencies, skills, and career development; present the results of their scientific initiation scholarships and independent study projects; meet fellow students from other universities; and promote social and technical interactions and visits.
Through its many activities, the ABCM has become a focal point and voice for research, innovation, and education in the fields of mechanical sciences and engineering in Brazil.
