The Sixth International Colloquium on Nonlinear Dynamics and Control of Deep Drilling Systems is organized for the first time in Brazil, and will take place in Rio de Janeiro, between July 1st and 3rd, 2024.
The event is a follow-up of the previous meetings which have been held at the University of Maryland, USA (2022), Preikestolen, Norway (2018), the University of Minnesota, USA (2014), the Eindhoven University of Technology, Netherlands (2012), and the University of Liege, Belgium (2009). In order to encourage participation and fruitful discussions, the number of participants is limited to about 30 – 40 invited researchers.
Advancement of this field, needed to match these increasing demands in drilling practice, requires synergetic efforts from different research communities, in particular, those associated with computational sciences, dynamical systems, nonlinear structural vibrations, geomechanics, drilling technology, and control theory. Moreover, these advancements will require active collaborations between academia and industry. The participants in this colloquium are expected to stimulate a dynamic exchange of ideas amongst participants, who come from diverse backgrounds and are all interested in the scientific challenges brought up by this important engineering application.
The colloquium sincerely hopes that this meeting will serve as a springboard for setting up novel cooperative initiatives that are needed to tackle the future challenges faced in the deep drilling systems area.
