The local organizing committee of JEM 2027, led by the Multiphase Flow Research Center (NUEM) of the Federal University of Technology – Paraná (UTFPR), is pleased to welcome the scientific and industrial community to the 9th Multiphase Flow Journey, which will be held in Curitiba, Paraná, Brazil, from April 26 to 30, 2027.
The event emerged from the merger of the Brazilian Meeting on Boiling, Condensation and Multiphase Flows (EBECEM) and the School of Multiphase Flows (EEM). Since then, JEM has been organized every two years, with the support of the Brazilian Society of Mechanical Sciences and Engineering (ABCM), bringing together undergraduate and graduate students, researchers, and professionals interested in the broad and multidisciplinary field of multiphase flows.
The history of JEM is closely connected to that of EBECEM, whose first edition was held in Florianópolis, Santa Catarina, in 2008. The event subsequently evolved into JEM in 2010, in São Carlos, São Paulo, followed by editions in Curitiba, Paraná, in 2012; Campinas, São Paulo, in 2015; São Paulo, São Paulo, in 2017; and Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro, in 2019, held in conjunction with the International Conference on Multiphase Flows (ICMF 2019). Following the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2021 edition was organized by the Federal University of Espírito Santo as an online event. In 2023, the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro hosted the event, which returned to its traditional in-person, single-room format. The 8th edition, held in São Carlos in 2025, marked the return of JEM to the city where the event was first established.
In 2027, it will be a great pleasure to bring JEM back to Curitiba, which previously hosted the event in 2012. Fifteen years after that edition, the 9th JEM will return to Paraná under the organization of NUEM – Multiphase Flow Research Center at UTFPR. We are particularly pleased to welcome the multiphase-flow community back to the city and to provide a stimulating environment for scientific exchange, collaboration, and the development of new ideas in this field.
The main objective of JEM 2027 is to contribute to the education and scientific development of undergraduate and graduate students interested in multiphase flows. During the first three days, participants will have the opportunity to attend lectures and hands-on workshops conducted by specialists from academia and industry. The event will also promote discussions on state-of-the-art advances in multiphase flows through the presentation of high-quality research contributions from the scientific community, as well as through talks delivered by our invited keynote speakers. JEM 2027 will provide an excellent opportunity to strengthen existing collaborations, establish new scientific and industrial partnerships, and foster interaction among students, researchers, and professionals working in different areas of multiphase flows.
We look forward to welcoming the multiphase-flow community to Curitiba, Paraná, in April 2027, and to sharing with you an inspiring and engaging 9th edition of the Multiphase Flow Journey!
